A NEW SIMPLIFIED VISA FOR DIGITAL NOMADS

Since the beginning of November, Portugal has Visas available for digital nomads (self-employed) and remote workers (employed by a non-Portuguese company) from any country in the world. The requirements are quite simple because the main focus of this new Visa/Residence Permit is to attract high-skilled residents to Portugal. The Portuguese Government is convinced that, once you live in Portugal, you will never want to leave, attracting wealth with this simple strategy. After the innovative Golden Visa and D7 Visa, the Portuguese Authorities are, once again, one step ahead by attracting a whole new class of residents.

Average Monthly Income: An average monthly income of the last three months (from subordinate or independent work activity) of €2,840.
Clean Criminal Record: A clean criminal record is required (misdemeanours don't count). For UK citizens, this can be obtained through ACRO/DBS; for US citizens, an FBI fingerprinted record is necessary.
Accommodation: You need a place to stay in Portugal. We can help you with both short-term and mid-term rentals.
Personal Statement: A signed personal statement explaining the reasons for applying for a National Visa to Portugal. We can assist you in preparing this statement.
Travel Insurance: Travel insurance is required (S1 form is enough for British Nationals).
Proof of Means of Subsistence: You must provide proof of means of subsistence as stipulated by law.
Purpose-Specific Documentation: Specific documentation related to the purpose of the stay is required.
Remote Work Proof: Proof that the work can be performed remotely.

APPLICANTS SHALL BE AWARE THAT:

You can not enter Portugal under a tourist visa and apply here for a residence permit (yes, we will handle all the paperwork to assure that you will get both the needed Visa and the desired Residence Permit)

According to the new regulations, the first residence permit will be valid for two years - at the end of the second year, and if you keep filling the requirements - along with the requirement of living in Portugal - you can renew it for 3 more years.

At the end of the fifth year of legal residence in Portugal, you can get the Portuguese Citizenship (passport) and/or a permanent residence permit (valid for 10 years).

US CITIZENS SHALL BE AWARE THAT:

You may qualify to exclude your foreign earnings from income up to USD $120,000/year, if you comply with the IRS exceptions.
